Two trains depart both Dar es Salaam and Kapiri Mposhi each week, one known as the "Ordinary" passenger train and the other as the "Express" passenger train. The journey length of the "Ordinary" passenger train is about 48 hours, whereas the "Express" passenger train takes about 8 hours less to cover the same distance mainly due to stopping at less stations. Neither are reliable so don't plan tight connections!

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to New Kapiri Mposhi, Zambia

Ordinary Passenger Train: Departs Dar es Salaam on Tuesday's at 13:50, arriving Mbeya at 14:10 on Wednesday and New Kapiri Mposhi at 13:37 on Thursday.

Express Passenger Train: Departs Dar es Salaam on Friday's at 15:50, arriving Mbeya at 13:08 on Saturday and New Kapiri Mposhi at 09:26 on Sunday.

New Kapiri Mposhi, Zambia to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Ordinary Passenger Train: Departs New Kapiri Mposhi on Friday's at 14:00, arriving Mbeya at 14:32 on Saturday and Dar es Salaam at 15:46 on Sunday.

Express Passenger Train: Departs New Kapiri Mposhi on Tuesday's at 16:00, arrving Mbeya at 14:13 on Wednesday and Dar es Salaam at 12:10 on Thursday.

These timetables were effective from 15th February 2016, however, both were still accurate in October 2019. Check the TAZARA website shown in the suggested links section for up to date information.
