How to travel by train in Moldova

April 29, 2018

Calea Ferată din Moldova (abbreviated as CFM) is the only railway operator in the Republic of Moldova. The website however, is unfortunately only available in Moldovan and Russian, but the simple steps below will help you navigate the website enough to figure out train timetables and possibly to purchase an e-ticket on the route between Chişinău and București.

Step 1

Type www.cfm.md into the address bar or simple click on the link.  This will open up the Moldovan railways homepage.  Then click on the Russian flag in the top right corner.

Step 2

Hover over the fourth menu option along the top (ПАССАЖИРСКИЕ ПЕРЕВОЗКИ), and then click on the third option in the drop down menu (Расписание движения поездов).  This will open the timetable page.

Step 3

Select the departure city (Отправление), the arrival city (Назначение) and click search (поиск).  This will display the timetable for the route selected.

The last column in the timetable refers to the day(s) of operation.

Ежедневно – Daily

Четные дни месяца – Even days of the month

Нечетные дни месяца – Odd days of the month

Пн,Пт,Сб,Вс – Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (basically the box on the far left is Monday, the box on the far right is Sunday & if the box is blue, the train operates)

Step 4

The Moldova railways website allows the purchase of e-tickets on the route Chişinău to București.  The fare for 1st class is 685.63 Moldovan Leu (34€) and for 2nd class 593.26 (30€).  It’s best to use Google Translate (or similar) to help you through the steps.  To access the booking page click here or look for the image below on the Moldovan railways homepage.

Once on the booking page, simple fill in the information required and use Google Translate to help understand what each field means.
